Houndstooth

Good Day! Can't believe the week is half gone already. Went to Antigonish on Monday for Thanksgiving. Adam & Stephanie cooked the turkey dinner and it was so good. I had a Cuttlebug class last night so didn't get home till 10:00. Lots of fun in the class though!

I did whip up a manly birthday card. Pretty simple. Made the card monochromatic. The base of the card was Creamy Carmel c/s from Stampin' Up as was the ink and the confetti vanilla c/s. The layered background was Cuttlebugged with the Houndstooth folder and sanded. This is one of those folders that if you want to do a larger background it's very easy. The pattern on the embossing folder repeats itself so you can do half of your piece of cardstock and then rotate your paper and do the other half (you are able to align up the previous embossed area in the folder). When you run it through the folder a second time it will flatten out some of the previous embossed area, however that is easy to fix. Take your cardstock and place in on a softer surface, such as a mouse pad, and then with a stylus just trace over the embossed area that has been flattened. It will pop back out very easily and you won't be able to tell that you had to run it through twice.

Sympathy Card with Alcohol Inks

I just love playing with the alcohol inks and the Cuttlebug. I covered a piece of cardstock with regular household tinfoil and ran it through the embossing folder called bloom dots. Alcohol ink colors I may have used are Stream (that's a for sure), and possible lettuce and cranberry (or eggplant). I did this a couple of weeks ago but just got the background made into a card. Once again I used a stamp from "Garden Silhouettes" (retired SU set) and stamped in black craft ink and embossing using Iridescent Ice. The words are embossed in silver. The green cardstock is from the line called "Bling". It's textured but also has a bit of a sheen to it. I added a silver/grey organdy ribbon to the side just to finish it off.

Lotus Book

This is a book I taught at The Cutting Garden a couple of days ago. I'll be teaching it again in November. We call it the "Lotus Book". The size is approximately 6 x 6 and would make a great little gift. It can hold quite a few photos and would be ideal for featuring a special event. I just love how the pages seem to keep unfolding.

I'm still trying to get back on schedule with my crafting. Finally got the housework caught up yesterday and the laundry....well....the ironing is calling out to me.

Tomorrow we are driving to Antigonish to have turkey with my son and daughter-in-law. Can't believe no turkey to cook. This is so cool!

Today I might go out for a drive and see all the beautiful colors of fall. Perhaps take a drive down to the Valley.

Chalks

Wow, what a week. We were so busy getting all the final details done for the wedding. The weather was beautiful. Sunny and warm for October. Couldn't have asked for anything better. Will post soon some pictures of the happy couple.

In the meantime the tree was stamped with versamark ink and then chalks pounced over the stamped image to give it the color. Core'dination paper was used for the background with the Swiss Dot Cuttlebug folder and then sanded. I just happened to have ribbon with similiar dots. Finished the card with Happy Birthday embossed in gold. Heat embossing always adds an element of elegance to any card.

Short note as I'm still trying to get organized and back into a rountine. See you tomorrow.

Aren't they cute....

My brother (Reg) and sister-in-law (Emily) arrived last night from Alberta for the wedding. Picked them up at the airport almost without an incident. I had received a voice mail saying they were arriving at 9:05 p.m. We went to the airport waited, watched everybody get off, pick up their luggage and there was nobody for us. I assumed I must have got the day wrong, drove back home checked the message.....no, I had heard right....phone rings......they are at the airport. They were put on a second flight as there had been some plane problems. So went back out, picked them up and proceeded to stay up late trying to catch up on news. Good thing they are here for a few days cause there is lots of catching up to do!

Now onto the project. I decided the table that will hold the book for guests to sign should have a picture of the happy couple. This picture was taken in our backyard about a month ago. The saying at the top is the same wording that I put on the big banner for behind the head table that was posted earlier in the week. I have a scrapbooking program that I did the writing on and printed it off. The doves and the scrolls down the side of the page are done using the cricut. I had found some pretty white ribbon a few weeks ago and it had some gold swirls on it and went perfectly. To finish it off I bought a 3-D scrapbook frame to hold the picture. The nice part about the frame is the picture can be changed at anytime and the one you take out will fit into a 12 x 12 album.

I also did the wedding card last night but I won't post that for a couple days yet!

Plans for the day include visiting and driving around the area a bit before the wind and rain arrives.

Polished Stone

HI Everyone - time is getting more valuable each day so please be patient as my posts are getting farther apart. One week today to the wedding. My brother flies in tomorrow night from Alberta so better get the spare room cleaned. Actually it's clean....it's the rest of the house that isn't.

Todays post is done using rubbing alcohol and re-inkers. You ask, "What is a re-inker?" The little bottles of ink that you used to refill your ink pads when they go dry. The technique is called "Polished Stone". You can achieve the same look by using the brand of alcohol inks. You will need an applicator that felt will stick to or simply a piece of felt if you don't mind your fingers getting a little dirty. On the felt apply about 3 drops of ink of one color and then 3 drops of another color. Try not to have the colors overlap. Now find the ink bottle that is metallic (used on the gold or silver ink pads). Apply about 3 drops of that too. Next ger out your rubbing alcohol and apply alcohol to make the felt wet. You don't want it dripping but it needs to be wet. Lastly use a piece of glossy cardstock (yes, it needs to be glossy) and dab your felt all over the glossy cardstock to make a background. You want to cover the entire piece of cardstock. As you are doing this the metallic ink will actually make gold veins on the paper. It looks really pretty. You can go over the area you already covered and it won't hurt it. So if you don't quite like the look you go the first time you can go back and rework it. Lastly take your black ink and a stamp and apply your image. A word of caution - don't overdue the metallic ink as it doesn't want to dry very well.
