Tiki Party

Good Day!

I made this card for my neighbor. I was looking for something fun. The tiki head was an image I downloaded from the internet, traced and cut using the silhouette. The drink was a cricut cut form Life's a Beach cartridge.

The background I printed on my printer. I've learned to use a glossy cardstock and the print is much nicer. The stamp is from Just-Rite and the scallop is a SU punch. 

To go along with the card I bought an orchid plant...guess I didn't show how pretty

it was. lol

The dragonfly was purchased from the silhouette library as were all the vinyl cuts.

This machine cuts vinyl great. Intricate designs are not a problem. My only problem is I want to vinyl everything.

I did have a label image but I was able to draw a oval to match the inside of the label for the blue vinyl. I am using the designer edition software and that allows me more creativity. Probably way more than I'll ever need. The swirly font was pretty cute too.

Well I just couldn't leave this side without anything so I duplicated the dragonfly and then I had a font that has a little flower on each letter. Perfect...and in the centre of each flower I added a black pearl.

 

Had a productive day yesterday in my craftroom and I also visited with a friend where

we exchanged craft ideas. I've got a cool one coming up for you.

 

DH is in Calgary right now...coming home today but boy have they been in the deep freeze. Saturday's forecast was -30C for high and -46C for low. That's cold.

It's A Boy!

Morning There,

First off I want to let you know my Grandson was born on Monday at 5:02 p.m. weighing in at a healthy 7 lbs 7 oz.

As you can see I have been busy ... I actually had this already done but I couldn't get the pictures to upload to the computer from the camera. The disk seems to get stubborn every once in a while and yes it decided to have a moment at the most inopportune time.

I started with a 8 x 8 glass block from Hobby Lobby. Inside I've inserted a set of lights so it can work as a night light. I also now know how to install a cord switch if the set of lights doesn't have this option. Very easy to do.

This side of the block I used Word Collage Cricut cartridge and blue vinyl from Joann's. Before I added the vinyl I also sprayed the outside of the block so it have a frosted look to it and it also makes the lightening softer.

On the reverse side of the block I used Nursery Tails and printed the image with my Imagine on printable vinyl.

The image on the card was also take from the Nursery Tail cartridge.

I thought the little carriage was really cute and I might put some treats in there for Xavier.

The design for this came from Scor-pal. The directions are here. In the directions they don't list a size for the wheels...I started with the Stampin' Up scallop punch and sized down from there using my nestabilities. I like my added touch of spokes. Again it was a Stampin' Up punch and I just cut two, one in each color. A sparkly blue brad to finish.

Can't stay on the computer long this morning....I have lots of things to get done before we leave for Canada tomorrow. I know Poppy & Nana have to stay away from the stores today. We keep stopping in and checking out the cute kids clothes department and apparently we lack self-control.

I really am going to try and post while I'm gone....I have the pictures loaded to my blog already.

Table For Two

Hello There,

Hope you are all enjoying a long week-end! I'm starting this week off with a Home Decor project. I've had a table on my deck that I've been wanting to do something with and once I got started it was so much fun.

I created vinyl placements, coasters and then decorated a vase/candle holder.
Only cartridges used were Wall Decor and Imagine Blossom. All printing was done on Cricut Printable Vinyl.

I printed full sheets of vinyl in green and the pattern. When you are adhering the vinyl to the table be sure to remove the backing in small sections. This makes it easier to apply wrinkle free to your surface. You can also use a transfer tape but I rarely do that.

Used my gypsy on just the expression side so I could manipulate the image as large as possible. That was why I had to print on the vinyl first and then cut using the expression side.

If you look closely at the above photo you can see a flourish that is cut out of the design rather than it be a waste used it for decoration on the table.

Once I finished the place mat settings I thought it could use coasters. I did have coasters that I had purchased for other projects but next time you go somewhere that serves drinks they will generally give you a coaster. Heck, don't let it get wet pick it up and save it for your next crafting project. These coasters were 4" in diameter so I cut two circles from the extra green I had printed. Adhered the vinyl directly to the coaster and it will help preserve the coaster too acting as a water barrier. Cut a scalloped circle at 3.6" from pre-loaded on the Imagine and flood filled with Blossom pattern.

To put the sand in the glass jar I used a funnel. If you have no funnel roll up some paper and tape it.

There are three butterflies on the glass container.

Wall Decore - Place mats with silverware - 8.05" - pattern

Green shadow on place mats - 8.50" - I wanted a wider border.

Butterflies 1.5"

Coasters - 4" & 3.6"

Tip - Don't put your vinyl on your mat backwards. I did that with one piece and I had a big mess. The side you're supposed to print on really suck to the mat. I had to use soap and scrap it off.

My Favorite Place...

Good Morning,

On the personal side of things here, not much going on. Watching all the season finales of everything. lol I must admit I have been a Survivor fan from day 1.  I was glad Rob won as I thought he played a good game. Other seasons that he was one...he was not my favorite! lol

Today is a Home Decor project. I created the vines using Cindy Lou and welding four of the images together. Where I just wanted to fill in on the vine I cut out just one.

For the words I used Gypsy Font for the large words and Base Camp for the smaller.

I also tried to put some Tiki faces on the fence but the vinyl just wouldn't stick to the rough wooden boards. If you look closely in the picture you can see a Tiki face though. He's supposed to light up at night and is solar powered. Unfortunately he doesn't work anymore. His eyes sort of glowed. lol

Vinyl is pretty easy to work with. You can cut it on any of the cricut machines. The words I did use a transfer paper to I could get it lined up before putting it on the wall. The vines I just applied the image directly to the wall. There is a protective backing on the vinyl and I remove that in pieces rather than all at once. Makes it easier to keep everything straight.

I want to put something up in my craft room now too. I bought some dark brown vinyl for that to match the beige/tan walls.

More Vinyl and a Rant

Morning All,

I need to take five minutes this morning to rant about my crappy day and then I'll be fine. I'd rant to my DH but he's away and the phone bill would be too high.

Morning started off just fine. A little coffee, checking my e-mail, thanks to all who comment on the post...I do love reading those. Then I get a phone call wanting to know if I've been using my debit card at Net Flix or something like that. Apparently at 3:30 a.m. somebody was using my debit card or debit number. They were for only small amounts but they would freeze those charges. I am VERY grateful to that monitoring company/system or I may not have noticed those charges till much later. So this phone call made me go back and check my bank account. I admit I don't monitor it closely and if something goes through I usually assume it is DH who has made a purchase and unless it is large I ignore it. Well I find a week later a charge for $399.76. I try to get a hold of DH to see if he purchased something on-line and in the meantime I call the company to try and find out what has been supposedly shipped to me. Apparently I wanted two MP3 players and head sets. If it had been one I might have chalked that up to DH cause he's been wanting one but two????? I finally get in touch with DH and he assures me he hasn't been shopping. lol

So now I'm on the phone with credit card services cancelling my card and then my bank getting replacement card and having them send out fradulent forms so I can claim for my money back.  At the end of the day I can't get a replacement debit card for 5 - 7 business days. It comes in the mail. It's a good thing that I had some cash in my pocket book or I would be out of luck cause DH has his debit card with him.

Apparently they were also trying to make some purchases to play their Sony Playstation. Don't think I'm dealing with real hardened criminals here.

I feel better now....I guess it could have been worse.

I did some more of these little vinyl characters for the walls. Pluto is really cute and so are Chip & Dale.
I hope to get these in the mail today to Christine for her children.

Going to go and try and craft a bit now...still pumped up....but a little paper and glue should calm me down.

Wall Art- Powder Room - Cuttlebug Challenge #72

Good Morning,

Look what I did yesterday. I made a wall hanging for the "Powder Room"!

I've been in the process of decorating the house. It took me three months to decide the color theme/style for the guest bathroom. Originally I wanted something in blues & oranges & funky to match the bedroom but after searching every store both locally and online I soon realized I just wasn't going to find what I envisioned in my little mind. So it was time to change directions. I still wanted something funky...I'm always more practical so this was my chance to live on the wild side. Who would have thought? lol

The wall colors area light brown/beige color so my first instinct is black/red/white isn't going to go...I finally let that notion rest...not before I left the curtain and everything hang for a few days to make sure I liked it and it wasn't going to cause me sleepless nights cause the walls weren't white.

I then brought out my newest toy the Gypsy to create the wording. If you have a design studio you can do this as well. I can play with it in front of the TV while I'm sitting with hubby and he is enjoying surfing all the stations ont he TV. You gals know how that is...you just figure okay this might be an okay show to watch...ooops commercial time...and the surfing begins until he finds another channel without a commercial...we pause there until the next commercial. lol See how I've gotten off track...

I used Alphalicious for the font, Mickey & Friends for the lipstick and Wedding for the shoe. The beauty of this is I was able to pull up all those images and then "weld" them together so everything is one piece. I also cut the top of the lipstick and the shoe out separately on red cardstock and then ran it through my sticker maker so I could apply glitter to the top so it had a little bling to it.

The main image is cut out of black vinyl on the cricut and applied to the wall. This was my first attempt at this and I would suggest something a little smaller so you understand how the transfer paper and everything works. Halfway through the project isn't the best time to be reading directions. lol

I don't think you can see it but all of our walls in the house are textured. The drywall isn't smooth like most of the homes I've lived in. When looking at homes here all the houses were like this. My point being...yes there was a point...even though they weren't smooth I was still able to apply the word art. Another idea would have been to paint a larger piece of wood and apply the words to that. This vinyl is also supposed to be able to peel off the wall and leave no mark.

Thought I would include this picture too. I found this time wall art that was just a perfect fit for the room.

Todays project also fit the challenge over at Cuttlebug. Any wall hanging.

Must be time for me to finish the coffee and get doing something. Looks like I might be doing something tomorrow so if I do I'll give you the scoop on Monday.
