Glitter Cuttlebug

Hi Again,

Made it home from vacation. It actually feels good to be home and eating healthy again. It was a fun time and will share some photos over the next few days. Played some tennis the last week there but managed to hurt myself. First I pulled something in the knee cause it was swollen and sore. Now it's just swollen. Also did something to my back (probably laying in a lounge chair all day) and I can barely get around but I'm sure it will get better soon.
Happy to see it raining and not snowing...let's hope it stays that way.
Took me all afternoon to make this card. The worst part was trying to get a stamp set I wanted from under my desk. I can't twist and bend at the same time. lol
I used a Cuttlebug embossing folder on black cardstock. On the recessed areas I used 2-way glue to cover the cardstock and then applied fine glitter burnishing it to the paper.
It's hard to see the colors but on the leaf/stem areas they are green glitter and the flowers are a coral color. Make sure you do one color of glitter at a time starting with the darkest glitter first.
So apply glue to area, let it dry till it's clear (that's how 2-way glue works), add glitter - rub glitter into the areas with your finger and then used a stiff brush to remove excess on card. Repeat with the second color.

I used a punch to make the photo corners on the card. For the stamped sentiment I used a retired SU set and my nestabilities. Also placed a little bling in the centre of the flower.
It's hard to get a good image of the sparkle on the card but give it a try and see what you think of the technique. Click on the image for a better view.
I think it must be time for a nap!

Flower Girl & Ring Bearer

Hi
Heading to the airport early Friday morning. Will make it back to Halifax around 10:00 p.m. Connecting through Toronto.

Todays post is from the wedding again. Stephanie's niece and nephew were the ring bearer and flower girl. They were so cute.

I used chipboard, the cricut and nestabilities on the page. The paper was from a large package I bought at Costco.
Well I'm signing off quickly tonight as I'm uncomfortable sitting on the bed and typing.
I'll be back in my craft room soon.

Another Digi Image

Good Morning once again from Jamaica,

This is my last day here...and you ask why isn't she on the beach...one word...weather. Oh well...I'm taking time to chat with you.

This little container was made using the digital image from In Style Stamps.

I printed the image onto vellum weight cardstock and then used markers to color in the image. As always I color on vellum from the reverse side so the colors are slightly more muted and everything looks smoother.

Do you like the box? It has a bottom in it too if you want to use it for a container instead of just a light. I used my square nestabilities to make the container. Once I get back home I'll do up a tutorial so you can make one too. If you prefer to have the pieces already cut I will probably do this little box as part of an Easter class at The Cutting Garden. That way we get to chat and have fun at the same time.

I better go find Kevin and see if he is done playing tennis yet.
Let me know if all the snow is gone back home? You can tell me little white lies if you want about the weather...it'll make me feel better. lol
Enjoy your day stamping and creating...I'm looking forward to having some crafty play time. I think I'm starting to go through withdrawal. lol

InStyle Stamps

Hello There,
It's been about two weeks since I posted. Been away on vacation. I'll arrive back home late on Friday night.
The weather hasn't been all that co-oporative but it has been better than snow. Quite a bit of cloud cover and wind. Still doesn't stop us from sitting at the beach.
I did spend a couple of days taking tennis lessons however my knee didn't seem to like it and swelled up. Now I have to watch. Kevin is still playing though and I'm using my time on the internet.
Before I left I had uploaded a few pictures so I could blog while I was away have only logged onto the internet twice. You should see the messages in the in box. WOW!
Todays card is done from a digi image from In Style Stamps. They are a new stamp company with some unique twists. You can get your traditional stamps, or you can have an anime stamp made from a photo or you can purchase a stamp image over the internet and download to computer to be printed. The card I've done was using their downloaded image.
It was a picture of a chick. I colored the chick in using chalks, put a slit in it's beak so I could insert some balloons that had been colored in with marker and glitter put overtop. I used a stamp positioner to stamp the sentiment around the image. Turned out kinda cute.

I'm looking forward to getting back to my regular blogging as soon as I get home.
Have a great day. I'm heading off for breakfast as I guess the tennis group were rained off of the courts.

Technical Info

Hi There . . .

Thought I would share a little computer knowledge with you today as well as a card. This knowledge maybe something you already know...I knew some of it but had to really search for the right answer.
I'll start at the beginning of the story. I had designed a card for an on-line company using their image. I now needed to submit that image electronically back to the company with a watermark & copywright information. No problem, so I thought, I had done both before but apparently not in the scanner program I was using. After much searching there is something right on your computer that will tell you what characters are available in each font and what combination of letters/numbers from your keyboard to get them to appear.

The item is called a Character Map. Here's where to find it: Click on Programs, Accessories, System Tools and then Character Map. Once there, pick out the font you want to use with the drop down box and then lots of symbols appear on the page, you can scroll down if you don't see the one you are looking for. Once you locate the symbol you want click on it and the lower right hand side will give you a code to type on your keyboard in the program you are working in. One other piece of advise...if you can't get the symbol to work using the regular portion of the keyboard try the calculator portion on the far right of the keyboard. That was the only place I could finally get the copyright symbol to appear. Hope this helps somebody sometime or else file it under useless trivia.

Onto today's card. By the way, this isn't the one I did for the on-line company. I think I'm allowed to post it on Tuesday.
What do you think of the background on this one? No, didn't use a Cuttlebug folder, I know shocking news isn't it. lol I used my scor-pal...don't have one yet, I can help. I started with glossy cardstock, made a grid pattern with my scor-pal and then brayered ink overtop followed with a leafy stamp for some added pizzaz. The top is Scallop Classic Ovals but not quite cut in half to create the look of a flap. I thought it was kind of neat. The flowers were stamped on vellum and colored in with markers on the backside of the vellum then cutout. If you're doing this make sure you give lots of time for the markers to dry on the vellum. Do you see the cute little gem in the centre of the flowers. Those are the Dew Drops I was talking about a couple of days ago. (Actually a couple of days ago I called them Dew Berrys, my mistake)I bought the container called "Pointsetta". It has green, clear, pink and rosy reds in it. I use a tiny glue dot to adhere them. Works like a charm.

Adam and Stephanie are coming for a visit today and staying overnight so I probably won't have anything to share tomorrow but we'll see.

Fan Fold Flower

TGIF - Guess now that I'm not working TGIF doesn't have quite the same meaning. lol However, one week from today and I'll be on vacation somewhere warm and without snow. Getting excited.
Remember Wednesday how I was going to get my hair done...got all the way over to the Mic Mac mall only to discover I was 24 hours early. Some days I worry about me. Went back yesterday and had the hair appointment. Roots are all brown again. I'm just not ready for the grey look yet.
Today's card is for my father-in-laws wife. Her birthday is soon so I need to remember to put it in the mail.
Stamps I used were from blog candy I won on Julie's blog. It has lots of flowers, butterflies, etc. I really like it and it is also the set I'm using at class on Tuesday night.
The dragonfly was stamped in Blue Bayou and then I glittered the wings. Love how that looks. Also used one of the fauna stamps for the background on the River Rock cardstock. The cuttlebug folder is Floral and then I made a Fan Fold Flower for the corner using my scor-pal and Stampin' Ups scallop punch. A little rhinestone for the centre. I've seen over at The Cutting Garden something called a "Dew Berry" They come in some many different colors are raised up like the pearl I used but are more glassy looking and shiny. You get lots & lots of them in one container so I'm thinking you need a friend when you're buying these so you can split the container and get twice as many different colors. One container will have 3 or more shades of color in it as well. I think I may stop over there today and pick out one container.

Must go see if my bug will start as the weather seems a little cold this morning.
Have a great week-end.

Tomorrow's the Day

Hi There,
Don't know where the time has been going but I haven't been getting much created or if I do I forget to scan it before I send it out.

I did get a couple of masculine cards done. Supplies used were from Stampin' UP. Wanted to incorporate a little pattern paper into one of the cards. The other card I used the script cuttlebug folder (yeah, I did go shopping on Saturday)on the card. It went so well with the pen & ink that I couldn't say "NO".

This card I also cut about 3/4" off of the right side on the front and then glued that strip back onto the card with some gold cardstock and then another thin strip of the navy. Wanted to try something different.

Just a reminder that The Cutting Garden re-opens tomorrow in it's new location. For information you can click on the Cutting Garden. I have samples at the store now of the projects we will be doing on Tuesday night.
Today's activities include going to the hair salon and getting a color. It's been way over due but wanted to have it done close to vacation time. Actually vacation time is only 8 days away. Oh goodness.
On that note I'm going to sign off and go get something done.

Havy a good day.
